HARRY’S HOUSE
So I have mentioned this little cafe downstairs here in southern Mexico that I like to work from in the morning.
One of the many reasons I like it so much is because they instinctively put on my favorite new record in years, and that is Harry’s House by Harry Styles when I show up.
It seems odd, I know. I first came across Styles when my youngest daughter got seriously into One Direction. I didn’t take them seriously except to tolerate for Emma, but I do remember noticing Styles and thinking there was something going on there. Music producers, even when it seems like they aren’t paying attention, are paying attention.
Beyond that, I honestly paid very little until the recent Grammy ceremony, where he absolutely killed it and I was like whaaaaaaaa? I also heard that he had sold out the Los Angeles Forum, where I hung as a kid, for a ridiculous amount of nights. Twelve or so, I think? that’s crazy. And it made me listen to the record, and I understood immediately. It is a gorgeous record, and I am a fan for sure.
Aside from Bruno Mars, I’ve had a lot of trouble liking modern artists. It just bores me to death. But Harry’s House is very special. If you haven’t heard it, I hope you will listen.
It’s nice to find something new to like. The pickin’s have not been lush. So check out Harry’s House. I think you will feel like I do — it’s a classic. He’s a 100% rock star. God bless him.
Meanwhile I’ll keep digging it down here at my little cafe, doing my shit.
