CONGRATULATIONS, VIRGINIA BEACH
There Must Actually Be Something In The Water.
I admit, when I first heard a few months ago that native son Pharrell Williams had suddenly and ballsily talked the city into hosting a Coachella-level festival on the beach, I was highly skeptical.
The just-concluded Something In The Water weekend, featuring everyone from Pharrell to Gwen Stefani to Snoop Dogg to Dave Matthews (!) was by all accounts a phenomenal success. I tip my hat to everyone involved, particularly our local law enforcement agencies, for, well. Pulling it off.
So thank you, local law enforcement. You have proven once again that you are second to none.
My initial thoughts, knowing the history of spring break week here, were really focused on whether we as a city were equipped to handle such a mega-event on such short notice. It seemed as if Pharrell might have bit off more than he could chew. But the fact is, as a native who knows instinctively the capability of our city, he knew exactly what he was doing. And we shined as a result.
So thank you, Pharrell. You have given us a gift.
Let’s keep it going, yeah?
